NPR (National Public Radio) reported today (NPR Health Blog) that Wal-Mart is taking another ambitious run at providing health
services. Their revived interest is
interesting given that their domestic same-store sales have been stagnant for
the past 3 years, and they are now rolling out smaller-footprint stores to
break into different market segments. These
smaller stores could be the missing piece of their, to date, very modest
success at providing health services.
Given this news, my question to a medical practice owner is this: Are you a commodity that can be easily
replaced by Wal-Mart?
Friday I’ll have a follow up post on this same topic.
